Professional Approach

I have 20 years experience in marketing management roles in further and higher education alongside five years in B2B and three as an independent consultant. I can also draw on the expertise and experience of associates working in similar fields.

A Way with Words

I have a way with words. I’m an English graduate from Leeds University. I’m involved with creative writing and regional arts groups in my spare time.

Wide experience

I’ve worked in market research for SMEs, in copywriting and editorial roles in the printing industry and entered marketing management in IT Services in the late 1980s.

I was the first marketing manager at two Further Education colleges and was Head of Public Relations at the University of Huddersfield from 1997 to 2006.

I appointed the University’s first web manager, alumni officer and market research officer, commissioned its first marketing-audit and managed its first integrated promotional campaigns. Between 2003 and 2006 I worked with the University’s celebrity Chancellor, Sir Patrick Stewart on a series of awareness-raising campaigns. These both boosted recruitment and enhanced the reputation of the University. They drew Government attention and were described as ‘text-book’ by agency practitioners.

From 2006 to 2010 I was Head of Marketing at Keele University. I introduced a completely new website and helped develop the University’s first telethon fundraising campaigns. The fourth of these in 2009 secured £191K in pledges against a target of £65K.

Now freelance, I work with a number of the UK’s leading consultancies within the further and higher education sectors. I also offer direct support in the form of interim project management and assistance with campaign development, editorial and online presence.
